The recipient of the 2015 Combined Royal Colleges Medal, Dr Gavriel J Iddan D.Sc, will give a lecture on the Invention of Capsule Endoscopy, with some reflections from a troubled inventor.
The lecture will describe the road map leading to the invention of the capsule endoscopy from its inception in the early 1980s through the maturing of the required technologies in the early 1990s.
The presentation will also describe the turning of the idea and the associated technologies into a product and the establishment of a company for manufacturing the device.
The lecture will end with some general thoughts and conclusions regarding innovations, specifically medical instruments innovations and the hurdles to be crossed before success can be seen.
