A medical resource at your fingertips
As an expert gut health clinic, we work alongside GPs and consultants, acting as a medical resource that can be utilised upon request, delivering unrivalled problem-solving for all stages of gut and digestive issues.
Our gut health specialists use the latest diagnostic technology to provide a high-level and reliable service that helps to identify the problem and connect the patient with the right course of treatment.
When you refer a patient for a test, they remain your patient – not ours; this means you can refer them with complete confidence.
Note: Referrals to Functional Gut are typically made via a physician, GP, consultant, or dietitian. However, in certain instances, we also provide the option where people can self-refer for testing – find out more here.
In addition, if you would like a second opinion or another point of view, you can request to speak with another gut specialist at the clinic.
We aim to provide clarity on conditions, correct diagnosis, and tailored treatment plans suited to patient needs.

What is included in a referral?
We carry out extensive tests and use our expertise and knowledge in the area of gut and digestive health to carry out rigorous diagnoses.
As part of the referral, we will also require details relating to the patient’s condition, treatment to date, and ongoing symptoms.
All information is kept private and confidential, and as the referring healthcare provider or consultant, you will be provided with a detailed diagnosis report outlining test results.
Information we may request as part of the referral:
- Details and information on any testing that has previously been carried out
- Up-to-date information about the patient and past medical history
- Date of the referral
- Reason for the referral
- Your name, contact details, and position.
Helping to alleviate waiting list times and reduce the waiting period, our specialists work with healthcare providers to provide support and advice on specific health conditions.
You can also request a specialist at our clinic upon request.
Why request a referral?
If a patient is returning with the same or worsening symptoms with no clear indication as to the best course of treatment, now may be the perfect time to refer to the Functional Gut Clinic.
Supporting you in getting to the bottom of what is wrong, we carry out further investigations and diagnostic testing using specialist equipment and technology to identify underlying problems and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
We also accept urgent referrals, and our clinic will work with you to accommodate these on a case-by-case basis.
Working together, we can help to achieve quicker and earlier diagnosis, meaning treatment is more likely to be successful.
Ensuring the referral process goes smoothly
- Check that all patient details are up to date and ready for the referral.
- If there is a need for additional support, please make sure to include this in the request so we can better support the patient at the appointment.
- Make sure to send through all patient medical history and current treatment plans.
- If you are requesting diagnostic tests, we will send through all information and consent forms prior. We may also request further information and contact you regarding this.
- If you require an urgent referral, please speak with a Functional Gut team member to begin the process – we will always endeavour to support these requests to the best of our ability.
