
Dr Mark Scott
Dr Mark Scott PhD is our Director of Lower GI Physiology. He has over 30 years’ experience, both clinical and academic, related to the physiological assessment of functional colorectal disorders, (primarily constipation and faecal incontinence). He performs all routine and specialist diagnostic investigations of colorectal function and structure.
Mark is also a Principal Investigator within the Blizard Institute at Queen Mary University of London and has led pioneering research into the underlying causes of bowel dysfunction. He has supervised numerous postgraduate students (both clinical and scientific) to the successful completion of their higher degrees. In addition, he remains Director and was one of the founders of the internationally-renowned GI Physiology Unit (Colorectal services) within Barts Health NHS Trust.
Mark is currently one of the leads of the International Anorectal Physiology Working Group whose remit is to standardise diagnostic testing.
Medical / Scientific Publications
Mark is the UK’s most widely published colorectal gastrointestinal physiologist. As of July 2023, he has authored 205 original scientific papers and 14 book chapters. He has also been guest editor of 3 medical journal supplements on the subject of chronic constipation.
