Stool microbiome analysis

For ongoing digestive problems, bloating, food intolerances, low energy, or unexplained symptoms. A stool test that uses the most advanced DNA sequencing to analyse your gut microbes in detail.

ALL TEST ARE ACCREDITED & REGULATED BY

What is a stool microbiome test?

Your gut microbiome is made up of trillions of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microorganisms that live in your digestive tract. These microbes play an essential role in digestion, immunity, metabolism and overall health.

Our stool microbiome test uses shotgun metagenomic sequencing – the most advanced method available – to analyse the full range of microbes in your gut.

Unlike standard 16S testing, which only looks at bacteria at a broad level, shotgun sequencing identifies bacteria, archaea, yeast, fungi, viruses and parasites at species level, and also shows which functional genes are present.

This means we can see not only which microbes are there, but also what they are capable of doing – such as breaking down fibre, producing vitamins, influencing immunity, or carrying antimicrobial resistance (AMR) markers.

While microbiome testing has limitations and cannot directly diagnose disease, when reviewed by our clinical team it provides valuable insights, alongside diet and supplement recommendations tailored to your results.

How it works

Request your test (you'll complete a quick self-referral form) and we'll send you a simple at-home stool sample collection kit with prepaid return packaging.

Your sample is analysed using shotgun metagenomic sequencing for species-level and gene-level insights.

Your results are reviewed by our team of scientists and you’ll receive a comprehensive report with dietary and supplement recommendations based on your results.

Preparing for your test

There is no special diet or fasting required before the stool microbiome test. However, to ensure the most accurate results, we ask you to let us know about:

• Recent use of antibiotics, probiotics, or other gut-related medications.

• Any recent procedures such as colonoscopy.

In some cases, we may advise waiting a short period before collecting your sample. Your kit will include full instructions to make the process straightforward.

Getting your test results

Your report will highlight:

Species-level microbiome profile – which bacteria, fungi and other microbes are present.

Functional gene analysis – including digestion, vitamin production, immune interactions and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) markers.

Tailored advice – evidence-based dietary and supplement recommendations from our clinical team.

It’s important to understand:

This test is not a diagnosis but may help uncover imbalances or functional gaps in your microbiome. Microbiome profiles can be influenced by diet, lifestyle, stress and medication. Results should be considered as part of a wider gut health assessment.

Paying for your test

Self-paying: If you are paying for this test yourself and not through insurance, the cost will be £280

This includes the test kit, laboratory analysis, your clinician-reviewed final report and information pack with recommendations based on your results.

Insurance coverage

If you have private medical insurance, speak to your provider to explore whether they can cover this for you.

After the Test (Post-Procedure Care)

There are no restrictions following the test. Once you have collected and returned your sample, you can continue your usual diet, medication and activities.

Your results will be reviewed by our clinical specialists, and your report will be sent securely to you. Follow-up consultations are available if you would like further discussion and support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this test better than a 16S microbiome test?

Yes. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing is more advanced, providing species-level resolution and functional gene analysis, while 16S testing only gives genus-level bacterial information.

Can I do this test whilst pregnant?

Yes, this test is non-invasive and safe during pregnancy.
